The bike trail of Val Pusteria starts in Rio di Pusteria (763 m) and leads through the villages of Vandoies di Sotto, Vandoies di Sopra, Chienes, Casteldarne and S. Lorenzo to Brunico (835 m). This first section is level and 25.5 km long, ideal for beginners and families. The second section leads from Brunico to San Candido (1,174 m) via Perca, Valdaora di Sotto, Valdaora di Mezzo, Valdaora di Sopra, Ried, Villabassa and Dobbiaco (1,241 m). Also quite flat, this 33.5 km track is suitable for everyone. The third part of the track takes us from San Candido via Versciaco to Prato alla Drava / Winnebach (1,113 m), on the border between Italy and Austria. From there we pedal on along the Drava river to Lienz (about 740 m). This last track is 44 km long and sloping, is therefore unchallenging and ideal for families.
For the return journey the best choice is the new, modern local train which runs every half hour: just load your bike on board and back to the starting point! If the total distance is too long, you can choose how long you wish to pedal, and then cover the rest of the track by train.
Do not forget your Almencard Plus
, which allows you to travel on the local trains free of charge (Note: bike transport not included)
